Liposuction number one choice of plastic surgery among Brazilian men
Liposuction, which lays claim to being the most common cosmetic surgery procedure among women, has been joined by their male counterparts in Brazil now too as liposuction top procedure listings.
Surgeons have cited the main reason for men seeking out image altering surgery is to look younger and so that they can continue to be competitive in the job market.
In 2013, a grand total of 184,933 men underwent aesthetic operations Brazil – 12% of the total of all procedures recorded in the country. Liposuction alone led 27,529 men to remove excess fat from their bodies – key areas being under the chin, the waist and the abdomen.
The new data was included in a report by Isaps (International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery), released in last month.
In all, the correction of gynecomastia (unnatural growth of the breasts) is still the top aesthetic operation among men. In 2013, a total of 34,754 procedures occurred in Brazil.
However, 80% of them are done during adolescence, which makes liposuction the leader among men between the ages 25 and 50, according to surgeon Carlos Uebel, president of Isaps.
