We reveal top 10 countries for cosmetic surgery as figures show rising demand
It’s not just the London cosmetic clinics that are becoming busier and busier with new and existing clients looking for cosmetic surgery. The field of cosmetic procedures has become a booming worldwide business as people become one of the millions of people undergoing operations including Botox, breast augmentations, and liposuction.
We can reveal that there were over 23 million cosmetic and non-surgical procedures were performed in last year, as cited by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS).
The United States of America came top of the international chart, with nearly 4 million people going under the knife or needle. Taking the spot for second place was Brazil with more than 2 million procedures in the South American country.
Being a small country it’s not really surprising that Britain did not feature in the top 10, however it was ranked 14 in the world by the number of plastic surgeons, with a projected 865 in business.
Statistics published by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) earlier this year showed that 17% more operations were conducted in the UK in 2013 but the count of 50,122 was not inclusive of the non-surgical procedures reflected in the ISAPS figures.
There is little information on these treatments that can be collected in Britain due to the fact that dermal fillers and laser treatments are unregulated.
It was confirmed that Botox ranked as the most popular cosmetic procedure in the world.
There were more than 1.7 million breast operations performed in 2013, and unsurprisingly this made it the most popular cosmetic surgery worldwide. Breast surgery was followed in the popularity listings by liposuction, eyelid surgery, lipostructure and rhinoplasty.
Again, unsurprisingly women were by far the biggest consumers in the cosmetic surgery market, accounting for almost 90% of all procedures worldwide – that’s more than a staggering 20 million procedures.
Males underwent more than 3 million procedures, those being mostly rhinoplasty, breast reduction and eyelid surgery.
BAAPS confirmed that, facelifts, boob jobs, and eyelid surgery are most popular among the UK’s female population, while men preferred nose and eyelid surgery, along with breast reductions.
