Venezuela’s Newest Shortage: Breast Implants
While surgeons in the UK are having no issues with providing their clients with the breast enlargement and reductions they desire the same cannot be said for South American surgeons in Venezuela.
Our Venezuelan counterparts are currently suffering chronic shortages that are affecting their ability to perform breast surgery on their patients.
Beauty-obsessed Venezuelans are facing a scarcity of brand-name breast implants. Women are so desperate that they are attempting to have their doctors insert the wrong size implant, or implants that are made in China with less rigorous quality standards.
Venezuelans once had easy access to implants approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. But doctors say they are now all-but impossible to find because restrictive currency controls have deprived local businesses of the cash to import foreign goods.
It may not be the gravest shortfall facing the socialist South American country, but surgeons say the issue cuts to the psyche of the image-conscious Venezuelan woman which could lead to them making decision that might lead to health risks or complications.
