Brazil takes title of world’s biggest cosmetic surgery consumer
When it comes to boob jobs, liposuction, and other popular tweaks to a person’s appearance, Brazil has been crowned number one, taking the reins from the self-obsessed United States as the heavy hitters in terms of consumerism of cosmetic surgery.
It has been cited that one of the stand out reasons for this is that Brazilian clinics offer medical procedures at cheap prices and sometimes even free of charge.
The philosophy behind the Ivo Pitanguy Institute which has been treating low-income patients with deformities or cosmetic issues for the last five decades is it’s both a charity and an institution for a school of learning and progression in this field.
Pitanguy is considered to be the founding father of plastic surgery in Brazil and believes in the concept that the poor should be treated equally along with those who are wealthy.
Almost 1.5 million cosmetic procedures were carried out in Brazil in 2013, equating to 13% of the world’s total.
