Calum Best talks about his third hair transplant
The famous son of footballer and notorious playboy George, Calum has been in the public eye for much of his life and it’s been well publicised how he’s had hair transplants before to prevent him going bald.
The excellent results of those transplants have been easy to see on Celebrity Big Brother, with his hair looking fantastic.
And his publicist has revealed how this is in part due to the fact he recently had further surgery.
The 33-year-old has had three procedures and according to his agent won’t rule out a fourth if more areas of his hair which haven’t been previously treated start to thin.
The playboy has suffered hair loss since his early 20s and says he believes his habit of dying his hair and wearing it in tight ponytails contributed to its decline.
He’s previously spoken of how his hair loss ate away at his confidence – which was fully restored when he had surgery. Without that surgical help, he says he would have lost most of the hair at the front of his scalp by now and wouldn’t feel able to continue his career as a reality TV star.
In a statement released by his publicist Calum said: “Nature’s plan was for me to have thin and patchy hair but fortunately we don’t have to follow nature’s plans these days.
“Hair transplant technology has come a long way in the last five years which has meant I’ve kept all my hair and am able to wear it the way I did in my teens, before it started to thin.”
Calum also said keeping hold of his hair had done wonders for his self-esteem and made him look and feel five years younger.
He said: “No man wants to be bald because losing your hair is one of the most demoralising things that can happen to you when you age. You don’t feel the same way about yourself and you start feeling self-conscious.
“I found myself worrying about my hair during auditions. I was thinking, ‘what of they’ve seen my hair and don’t want a bald man for the part’. Because I was thinking about that I didn’t perform to my best and I ended up in a position where I was losing jobs because of my hair, even though the casting director hadn’t noticed it was thinning.”
