Rhinoplasty more popular among men than women in the US
At the beginning of the year, data was released by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) which revealed the increase in male plastic surgery procedures.
The overall conclusion of the data was that male procedures had risen by a significant 43% in just five years. This conclusion was widely deliberated by media outlets and plastic surgery experts like the doctors at Beverly Hills Physicians (BHP). Furthermore, BHP doctors also reported that a larger than normal proportion of their male patients had requested rhinoplasty procedures when compared to the average for their female counterparts. And while men only accounted for 9.7% of all plastic surgery procedures performed in last year, they did make up a substantial 22.4% of all rhinoplasty patients.
Here are a number of reasons why the rhinoplasty procedure is so popular amongst men:
- Gaining of youthful looks
Although our bones characteristically stop growing in our late teens or early twenties, the cartilage in our noses and ears don’t. In fact, they never stop growing as long as we live. Due to this fact, many mature people, men especially, have very large noses and ears. We are so used to seeing this, and for this reason many people subconsciously associate a smaller nose with youthfulness. And, because one of the main reasons men get plastic surgery is to give the impression they are more youthful to compete in the job market, rhinoplasty goes a long way toward accomplishing this goal.
- Looking natural is key
The reason that a nose job is one of the more widespread procedures in general is that it normally produces results that blend tremendously well with a patient’s facial aesthetics. While certain procedures, for example breast augmentations or buttock implants, are intended to make certain features stand out, lots of men opt for rhinoplasty because they simply want a nose that will ‘blend’ in. Following rhinoplasty, a person’s nose can finally compliment their other features, in order to enhance their looks, instead of hindering them.
