Men’s guide to plastic surgery
According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, men in the UK are moving away from drastic procedures, in favour of more “minor tweaks”, enhancing existing features rather than building new ones.
Below we have taken a look at some of the procedures most desired by men, and why they wish to have them done.
Also known as eyelid surgery, blepharoplasty is used to get rid of droopy eyelids, or any excess “baggage” on the eyes.
Eye bags tend to age men quite significantly, and can make you look tired. Often, being tired has nothing to do with it, when it is in fact the excess skin and pads of fat which contribute to the look. The procedure can also be used to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet, and takes around three hours for the procedure to be completed, with around a week’s recovery time.
More traditionally associated with women, Liposuction for men is becoming more popular amongst men between the ages of 30 and 40. Sometimes it is just a small amount of excess fat that is looking to be removed, while others wish to get rid of their back fat or beer bellies.
There are pockets of fat that do not seem to move, no matter how hard you try. These areas are most prominent in men on the hips (love handles) and the lower abdomen. Liposuction can help to remove this, and create more definition in the torso.
Otherwise known as the nose job, Rhinoplasty is one of the most commonly performed aesthetic procedures performed worldwide. With more than a thousand performed on men every year, it is also one of the most popular.
Simply, some men are not happy with the nose they are born with. Some wish to have them smaller in length, whilst others wish to have excess bone shaved for a thinner nose. Other men book in for the procedure to correct an injury, such as a broken nose as a result of playing sport.
40 per cent of men under the age of 35 are already experiencing thinning hair on top, which means there is a large market out there for people looking to have a hair transplant. Famous faces such as Wayne Rooney and James Nesbitt have undergone the procedure, in order to turn back the hands of time.
As discussed in a previous article (found here), a hair transplant has been found to do wonders for self-confidence. Some men embrace baldness as a part of life, but others wish to do something about it. Thanks to surgical advancements, they can boost their self-esteem courtesy of this procedure!
