Men keener than ever to seek out derriere & ‘moob’ surgery, research reveals
Male surgery, as we have reported previously, is surging. But while combating sagging eye lids and cheeks are still a prominent motivation for men in cosmetic surgery, new data compiled by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) has cited that men are now more likely to seek out butt lifts and breast reductions than a nip and tuck on the face.
Moreover, it’s these implants and lifts for the male derriere that displayed the largest upsurge in procedures in the US in the last two years, increasing by 36%. Procedures such as backside bulking using fat grafts also reported a rise of 28%.
ASPS President David H. Song said in a statement: “While more traditional facial procedures and breast augmentations are still among the most popular, we’re seeing much more diversity in the areas of the body patients are choosing to address.” The society also announced growths in lower body lifts and upper arm lifts as well.
What the study also found from the new data is the rising trend in breast reductions in men. From 2014 and 2015 combined, surgical procedures to shrink the breasts of males, or ‘moobs’, perked up by 5%. As a result, the share of all reduction surgeries in the US is at more than 40% for men, the ASPS claimed.
“As plastic surgery is becoming more common and accepted in men, we’re seeing more of them undergo procedures to tighten and tone problem areas, like the breasts,” Song said. “This procedure is often done in younger men who face genetic challenges with the size and shape of their breasts, and when appropriate, surgery can make a big difference in their lives.”
